1. Are Frontier Girls Troops part of a national organization?

Frontier Girls Troops are independently operated by individuals or organizations that have purchased a troop membership through Frontier Girls Clubs. Each troop is an autonomous body operated and governed by a single individual, local non-profit organization, church, school, or business. These groups have purchased a license to use the Frontier Girls name and logo as part of their youth program.  Frontier Girls Clubs may NOT be run as a for profit entity of any kind.  Frontier Girls Clubs are not business franchises and are designed for youth education only.

2. What does an Individual Membership from Frontier Girls include?

Every girl who participates in Frontier Girls should be a registered member regardless of whether she is operating as a Pioneer (alone) or as part of a troop. This registration and membership includes yearly access to the members only section of Frontier Girls where you will find everything you need for your daughter to fully participate in our program including:

• All badge requirements
• Girl/Parent Handbook
• Outdoor Training Supplement
• Tall Flag Training Supplement
• Flag Ceremonies
• Songs
• Links to resources such as crafts, patriotism, games and more
• Notices of discounts and sales
• Monthly newsletter
• Access to our Parent/Leader Forum and our Girls Forum

3. What does a Troop Membership from Frontier Girls include?

To register an official troop with Frontier Girls, troop leaders must purchase a Troop Membership in addition to the girl or family membership. In addition to the benefits listed in the individual memberships, troop memberships also include:

• Assignment of official troop number
• Leader Handbook
• All forms necessary to run a troop
• Printable certificates for awards
• Brochures and marketing materials
• Membership pin for the leader
• Ongoing support from National staff
• Supplements and Trainings added annually

4. How can I start a troop?

Starting a troop is quite easy. Most troops are operated by local non-profit organizations such as churches, schools, or veterans organizations, but individuals may operate a troop as well. Most home owners liability policies will cover any volunteer work you do (check with your insurance agent). If you do not have a home owners liability policy, you will probably want to get a non-profit group to sponsor your troop that already has insurance in place. Once you have found an organization, have them purchase a Frontier Girls Troop Membership, or if you have appropriate personal insurance, purchase the troop membership yourself. All instructions for getting your troop started are included in the Leader Handbook.

5. Can different ages meet together?
The Frontier Girls program was written specifically with multiple age groups in mind. With today’s busy schedules it is difficult to get children to the many activities they wish to pursue. For this reason, girls in grades preschool-12 can all be part of the same Frontier Girls troop. This allows families with more than one girl to all be part of the same troop so as not to add even more stress to the family schedule. This also allows older girls to act in leadership roles to teach and mentor the younger members, while providing the younger girls with role models closer to their own age. Within the troop, girls are divided into different program levels based on their age. Flag ceremonies, songs, snacks, and troop business can all be done as a troop. Girls may be divided into different program levels to work on various badge requirements when needed though we suggest keeping them together whenever possible.

6. Can my daughter participate as an individual?

Yes. All girls who wish to participate in the Frontier Girls program, use the name, and wear the uniform, must purchase an individual membership. They may then either participate in a local troop setting within a registered troop, or earn badges and awards as individuals at home as a Pioneer. Troop membership is not required.

7. Can girls registered as individuals without a troop participate in group activities?

Yes. Many times starting and running a troop is more effort than parents wish to pursue. If there are several registered individual girls in a close geographical area, they are more than welcome to gather together to work on badges, community service projects, or other activities as a group.

8. Are Frontier Girls troops allowed to partner with Boy Scouts troops or other local scouting organizations?

Yes. Frontier Girls is a very flexible program and we encourage interaction with other scouting programs. We will also honor badge requirements from these other programs as long as they are age appropriate. This way if you have a Boy Scout troop that you would like to work with for a particular activity, you may use the Boy Scout badge requirements for earning your badge rather than the Frontier Girls ones, making programming easier for all involved. We also encourage Frontier Girls to be active in any local all scout activities such as community service projects or jamborees.

9. What if I don’t have the skills necessary to teach a specific badge?

No leader can be an expert on everything their girls will want to learn about. You are welcome to take a class and learn the skill yourself first, but don’t be afraid to seek help from your community as well. We are trying to educate the girls on good citizenship. How can they learn about it if they never get a chance to see it in action. Let the members of your community share the joy of teaching your girls something by offering their own expertise. Just as the girls should be trying to make their community a better place through service, give your community a chance to make the girls better people as well.

10. Where can I find resources?

With the invention of the internet, a variety of resources are now literally at your fingertips. Frontier Girls has links to a variety of websites in their Members area that will help you find the information necessary to work on a variety of badges. If you can’t find what you are looking for, just ask! We are always willing to help locate resources on the net that will benefit our members. Our Leader forum is also a great place to ask questions and get ideas.  Don’t forget to also make use of your local library. Good old fashioned books are still a great way to learn new skills and information. You can also take advantage of local people and businesses with talents, knowledge, and skills in the area you are looking to teach.

11. Does each girl in the troop have to purchase an individual membership to Frontier Girls Clubs?

Yes. In order to wear the Frontier Girls uniform and use the Frontier Girls name and logo, a girl must purchase an individual membership from Frontier Girls Clubs regardless of whether she is using the program as an individual or as part of a troop.

12. Do we have to wear uniforms?

To fully participate in the Frontier Girls program, each girl will need a complete uniform. Without a vest, she has nowhere to put her badges and awards. Uniforms also promote teamwork and a cohesive group as everyone feels they are part of something larger than themselves. While we encourage all girls to wear the Frontier Girls uniform when participating in Frontier Girls activities, it is not always practical. Frontier Girls t-shirts or sweatshirts are recommended for any “messy” activity where uniforms may be stained or damaged.

13. What about copyrights and trademarks?

The use of the Frontier Girls name, logo, and materials is restricted. Upon purchasing a Frontier Girls membership:

You may:

• Use and adapt the program to the particular needs of your family or group as long as you follow our promise, creed and general program policies.
• Alter the requirements for earning badges to fit special needs particular to your family or group.
• Use alternate requirements for earning badges that you feel represent the objectives of the badge.
• Reproduce forms for individual troop use.
• Use our name and logo for t-shirts, newsletters, stationery, etc. to be circulated or used within your particular troop (as in newsletters, banquet decorations, etc.) for nonprofit purposes.  Items with the Frontier Girls name an logo may NOT be sold.

You may not:

• Use the Frontier Girls name or logo for any program other than a registered Frontier Girls troop or individual. The Frontier Girls name and logo is to be used only for a troop or individual that has purchased a valid troop or individual membership and is using the Frontier Girls program.
• Reproduce or modify logos, emblems, badges, or other program specific items for distribution or resale.
• Reproduce handbooks, badge requirements, or other Frontier Girls materials by any written, mechanical, or electronic means without specific, written permission from Frontier Girls.
